The video circulating from South Minneapolis is deeply troubling and raises serious questions that deserve clear, independent answers. In the footage, federal agents are seen pulling up alongside a parked SUV, exiting their vehicle, and moving quickly to the driver’s side. At least one agent appears to attempt to access the SUV while it is stopped. The vehicle then begins to move forward, and shots are fired shortly afterward.

From what is visible in the video alone, the driver’s actions appear reactive and consistent with someone who is frightened and attempting to get away, not deliberately attempting to run anyone over. The footage does not clearly show the vehicle targeting an agent or striking anyone, nor does it clearly show verbal warnings or de-escalation efforts before lethal force was used.

When deadly force is employed during law-enforcement operations — especially federal operations conducted in local communities — the public deserves transparency about what decisions were made, how quickly events escalated, and whether alternatives were available. Video evidence does not tell the whole story, but what is visible here is enough to justify serious concern and a thorough, independent investigation.

Accountability is not anti-law-enforcement. It is how public trust is built and maintained. As governor, I would insist on full cooperation, transparency, and clear answers so Minnesotans can have confidence that public safety operations respect both the law and human life.
